H-1B and College/BSMD Admissions

H1-B_visa_BS_MD_Admissions

H1-B visa programs is one of the several immigration programs for workers with specialized skills.

A person can stay in the United States for a maximum of six years under this visa, which has often been a pathway to a green card. Children of parents who have been granted H-1B status have H-4 visas.

Companies that want to hire employees from certain countries using H1-B visa program now have to pay $100,000

The new fee now introduces a degree of uncertainty, chaos and confusion around the H1-B program.

H-4 visa BS_MD_Programs

As an admissions expert, with 29 years’ experience, Dr. Lowe understands the nuances and changes in the college admissions process, specifically with students who wish to attend highly competitive BS/MD programs that accept H-4 visa students.

Continual changes in U.S immigration policy have always had a direct effect on H-4 visa students who are applying to BS/MD programs, for example, delays in the issuance of Green Cards (also called Permanent Resident Cards). If their parents’ Green Cards do not come through before they turn 21, they “age out.” These students then have to switch to student or work visas to remain in the U.S. or face deportation. Delays in visa status can result in clouds of uncertainty.

Dr. Lowe works with many students whose parents are H-1B professionals. They are highly skilled and come to the US mainly on the H-1B work visas.

Dr. Lowe has worked with students who, because of delays in their parents’ permanent legal residency, had to indicate that they were non-permanent residents/non-citizen students on their college applications, therefore limiting the number of BS/MD schools to which they could apply. Fortunately, over the years, with Dr. Lowe’s help, many were admitted to several BS/MD programs, including but not limited to: Brown University Program in Liberal Medical Education (PLME).

Dr. Lowe and his team work with H4 visa students and from time to time will consult with immigration attorneys regarding their client’s immigration status and its relationship to their admissions process. As a result, Dr. Lowe has been quite successful in placing H4 visa students into BS/MD programs.

Many H-1B parents call merely to garner information, thinking that they can navigate the BS/MD process on their own. They initially do not believe in hiring an advisor who specializes in direct BS/MD admissions and placing students into top programs that accept H-4 students.

Unfortunately, these parents discover later, because of their unreliable assumptions, miscalculations and mistakes, that their (children) H-4 students are denied acceptance to BS/MD programs. Some, because of their mistakes, deign to attend second or third tier colleges, or obtain multiple advance degrees, as their dream of becoming a U.S. medical doctor fades away.

“As an admissions expert, I am always cognizant of the unforeseen circumstances and unfavorable consequences that may adversely affect my clients’ positive outcomes. Because of our vigilance and comprehensive strategies, my clients are ACCEPTED into BS/MD programs as well as Ivy League and competitive colleges and universities with superior pre-med programs.” – Dr. Paul Lowe

Boarding School Admissions Season: 2024-2025 It’s Time to Start the Application Process

Boarding_School_Admissions_Consultants_Dr_Paul_Lowe

It is hard to believe that the 2024-2025 boarding school admissions season is here! Just 4 months ago our clients were receiving their acceptance notifications to schools like Exeter, Andover, Choate, Deerfield, Lawrenceville, Taft, Loomis, Hotchkiss and similar top schools.

We are receiving email inquiries and phone calls from parents who are inquiring about retaining the services of an educational consultant for direct admissions to the ninth grade or for reapplication (because their child was rejected or waitlisted during the last admissions cycle).  Many parents who called us were quite surprised when their child was either outright rejected or placed on (perpetual) waitlists last season.

It’s important to note that this admissions cycle (2024-2025) will be hypercompetitive (domestic applications are expected to increase). Why? Because more parents became aware of the benefits and multiple advantages of a boarding school education for their children. Additionally, because of the high number of those rejected (and placed on waitlists) during the last admissions cycle, more students are reapplying for ninth grade as well as 10th grade spots, especially to top boarding schools.

Many parents who believed that their child would be elevated from the waitlist will now have to reapply in 2024-2025 admissions season.

  • Marshall High School
  • Oakton High School
  • Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology
  • West Springfield High School
  • W.T. Woodson High School

Despite the fact that they are all excellent high schools, MANY parents contact Dr. Lowe because they mentioned that because of the size of the school, school counselors are either unable to provide continuous weekly or biweekly individualized college and/or BS/MD admissions services to each student. The senior class size for some of these high schools exceed 600 students.

U.S. Allopathic (MD) Medical Schools that Accept International Students

US_medical_schools_accept international_students_Medical_School_Admissions_Advisors_Dr_Paul_Lowe

Do U.S. medical schools ever accept international students? Yes!  However, it’s not very common, thus it is hypercompetitive and difficult. Some U.S. medical schools accept and matriculate a small number of international applicants into their programs. Less than a third of U.S. medical schools accept international students. The credential requirements vary from school to school and some schools actually state that they prefer U.S. citizens.

The_Lawrenceville_School_Dr_Paul_Lowe_New_Jersey_Admissions_Advisors

Lawrenceville is one of the Ten Schools and what makes it unique among other elite New England schools is that it is only one hour from Manhattan.  Its enrollment is 818 students, but appears as a smaller school because of its unique house system. The Lawrenceville School sits on more than 700 beautiful acres in suburban New Jersey

Lawrenceville is one of the most prestigious, elite and highly selective boarding schools in the world.  Its acceptance rate is 19%.

  • “I really enjoy the house system.” – Junior-student
