Over the last month or so, our New Jersey affiliate: New Jersey Admissions Advisors, has been receiving many calls from parents who reside in New Jersey who are choosing to have their children transfer from public schools and apply to private high schools in New Jersey.
In New Jersey, the competition to gain admissions to top private high schools is heating up this year – 2022 As more and more parents discover the major challenges in suburban high schools: (a) large class sizes, (b) not much flexibility when it comes to curriculum (c) they are under more bureaucratic red tape when it comes to regulations and rules, (d) larger school counselor-student ratio; they are willing to forgo public school education (and pay tuition), which increases the application pool and competition to gain admissions into coveted slots.
Niche, a company that researches and compiles information on schools released its latest ranking of the best private schools in the US, specifically highlighting the best schools that prepare students for elite colleges. By elite colleges, I am referring to colleges parents already know about: Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Brown, UPenn, Cornell, Dartmouth, Stanford, MIT, Duke, Johns Hopkins and BS/MD programs

Boarding school decisions are out! As expected, my firm is receiving continuous inquires to engage us (phone calls and emails) from stunned and stressed-out parents because their children are wait-listed and rejected! In some cases, their children have been wait-listed/rejected from ALL schools to which they applied.
All the parents are disappointed, unhappy and anxious because they are aware of the superior education at top boarding schools and that these schools are stepping stones to the Ivy League colleges and universities.
If your child was outright REJECTED the next step is to either settle for public school or reapply next year. If your child is WAIT-LISTED (which means “although we love your child, we don’t have spot available today, tomorrow or perhaps never”), you may wish to simply wait and see what will happen or reapply next year. Waitlists may be active for just the notification period that a school is enrolling students, or it may continue to be active through the spring and sometimes into the summer. In both cases, you may wish to retain the services of an admissions expert who understands the changing waitlist policies for schools and the off-waitlist as well as reapplication process and nuances because of the hyper-competitive nature of the Ten Schools and other top-tier boarding schools.
Successful boarding school admissions requires expertise and experience to understand how to manage risks, navigate pitfalls, design the right admissions strategies, and most importantly understand the admissions policies and professionals who are making admissions decisions – in other words an admissions expert!
Do you really want to risk mistakes or make the same mistake twice?
We find thatmany parents underestimate the risk of failure and over estimate the chances of success based on what they believe. This is not the time to take chances – it’s your child’s future!
When parents call our firm to inquire about our services the first thing they ask is what is your price? Your fees?
It’s amazing that 95% of parents who are willing to spend $240,000 or more over 4 years on private (boarding) high school education for their children waste time attempting to haggle fees for an exclusive advisory service that will will increase the chances of that education! I have discovered that parents who are shopping for services based on price, have already made the decision to not invest in expert advice that will help their children. They ultimately end up saving $240,000 in private high school tuition (their child attends public school) or worse pay $240,000 for a third-tier school education. Our market is specifically the 5%, parents who hire us and their children get into top schools!
Parents who choose to work with Dr. Lowe invest in the children’s educational future!

It’s that time of year when private day school admissions results are being released! Our offices are receiving calls and emails from disappointed parents who are receiving waitlist results.
If your child was WAIT-LISTED, this means that “we love your child, but we don’t have spot available today, tomorrow or perhaps NEVER”.
From my observation, there are six crucial potential missteps during the private school application process: (1) Parents From my observations, there are six crucial potential missteps during the private school application process: (1) Parents assume that it’s all about connections. (2) Parents and students don’t prepare enough for the interviews. (3) Parents start too late in the admissions planning process. (4) Parents assume that their skill sets and/or titles give them an admissions edge. (5) Parents and students listen to well-intentioned but incorrect or outdated advice from chat rooms, online communities and friends. (6) Parents make the mistake of retaining an inexperienced educational consultant who is not versed in the admissions policies, diplomacy and evolving or nuanced educational missions of top private day schools.
What’s my recommendation:You should now hire an expert who understands the OFF-WAITLIST process as well as the REAPPLICATION process. It’s important to know, especially for top and elite day schools, that admissions officers review all the data, appreciate transparency and are experts in their fields. We help our clients to advance from waitlist to admission, or if necessary, to reapply to schools. It’s our strategic and proprietary two-tier approach.
When I work with my clients, I help my clients avoid the irrevocable mistakes that cause rejections or being placed on the “permanent” waitlist or as one parent who called me referred to it as: “being gently rejected”.
