Each month, Dr. Lowe will present a case study of a medical school applicant and discuss their qualifications and admissions status and outcome.
Applicant Profile (Pre-Client):

- Cumulative GPA: 3.97 | Science GPA (sGPA): 3.96

Dr. Lowe’s Assessment/Review/Strategies/Results (Client):
The student’s personal statement heavily emphasized academic achievements, awards, and a passion for science. When explaining “Why Medicine?”, the narrative relied on broad clichés. The student chose the wrong recommenders, and it seemed as though the recommenders, including professors, did not know the student. Further review indicated that there were inconsistencies and mistakes in the AMCAS activities section.
Reapplication was recommended with emphasis of change in extracurricular activities that emphasized interpersonal skills, empathy, resilience, teamwork, and character. Student’s admissions profile was enhanced, and all essays were viewed and organically edited by 4 essay editors with no AI usage. Dr. Lowe reviewed the final draft with the client.
Results (Client): Applications submitted: Applied to 20 “best chance” MD programs, based on client’s enhanced profile, 8 interview invitations. Admissions outcome/acceptances: Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, and Tufts University School of Medicine.
