Over the last month or so, our New Jersey affiliate: New Jersey Admissions Advisors, has been receiving many calls from parents who reside in New Jersey who are choosing to have their children transfer from public schools and apply to private high schools in New Jersey.

It is hard to believe that the 2022-2023 boarding school admissions season is here! Just 5 months ago our clients were receiving their acceptance notifications to schools like Exeter, Andover, Choate, Deerfield, Lawrenceville, Taft, Deerfield, Loomis, Hotchkiss and similar top schools. We are receiving email inquiries and phone calls from parents who are inquiring about retaining the services of an educational consultant for direct admissions to the ninth grade or for reapplication (because their child was rejected or waitlisted during the last admissions cycle. Many parents who called us were quite surprised when their child was either outright rejected or placed on (perpetual) waitlists last season.
It’s important to note that this admissions cycle (2022-2023) will be hypercompetitive (domestic applications are expected to be up by 30 percent). Why? A published article in the New York Times, “The Boarding-School Boom” confirmed what we have been advising our clients who have been accepted to top boarding schools… there is now hyper-competition in boarding school admissions. Additionally, because of the high rejection (and waitlists) last year, more students are reapplying for ninth grade as well as 10th grade spots.
Many parents who believed that their child would be elevated from the waitlist had to have their children attend a public school for the 9th grade and reapply for the 9th or 10th grade.

Baylor Medical Scholars Program will no longer accept applications for fall 2022.
According to Rice University’s website: “Rice University has concluded our participation in the Rice/Baylor Medical Scholars program.”
Since the Medical Scholars Program will not be accepting applications in 2022, the competition to gain admissions into BS/MD programs will now increase because there will be fewer programs. Direct BS/MD Programs have become increasingly competitive as more and more students are applying! Boston University’s SMED Program closed this summer for fall 2022 applicants!

While high school counselors provide college counseling, they often do not have the time to cater to the development or implementation of each student’s individual college plan and are usually not available on-call on the weekend and after school hours.
